Konkani Shanti Publication (KSP) releases ‘Muslim History and Heritage in Goa’

A book by Mr. Prajal Sakhardande titled ‘Muslim History and Heritage in Goa’ was released at the hands of Maulana Jalaluddin Umri.  Mr. Prajal Sakhardande, a historian and a professor presently teaching at Dempe’s college of Arts and Science was felicitated at the hands of Maulana Jalaluddin Umri for his painstaking work on research of history and heritage of Muslims in Goa.

MrPrajal Sakardande in his speech said that normally it is perceived that Muslims presence in Goa is from the time of Adilshah’s period. He said that this is incorrect history, as evidences shows that Muslims presence in Goain fact dates back to the 7^th century. A calendar depicting pictures of heritage mosque built during Adilshah’s and pre-Adilshah period was released at the hands of Mr. Abdul Wahid Khan,state president of Jamaat – E-Islami Hind Goa.

Maulana Jalaluddin Umri in his speech said that man wants to live in peace, he wants to be happy andhe wants to succeed in this life. He said that present system has failed to address the problems faced by mankind hence it is high time that we should look for an alternate system wherein man’s success and salvation rests.He further said that we need to challenge the western onslaught on Islam and Muslims. He said that we have developed a tendency to blindly believe to whatever news is been fed by western media about Islam and Muslims, without ever thinking of questioning its truth. He further said that our minds are been controlled by the west, and we are accepting blindly their education pattern, their culture, their philosophy and their life style. He said that one needs to study the scriptures to understand its injunctions rather than blindly believing to what western media, or for the matter of fact anybody says about Islam. He said that we need to have dialogue with different faiths, for better understanding, for alleviating problems commonly faced by people, and for promoting harmony. He said that this Islamic Centre, God willingly, will go a long way in propagating the teachings of Islam, in providing literature on various topics to different section of the society and for promoting better mutual understanding and harmony. He concluded his speech by expressing best wishes for the success of the Islamic Centre Goa.
