“Rooted in faith, let’s be the channels of peace” – Interfaith Dialogue held

Nuven – 17.01.2015 :- An interfaith program was conducted at the Carmel college for women in Nuvem -Goa. The event was organised by the interfaith cell of the college in association with the Pilar theology college students. Topic for the occasion was “Rooted in faith, let’s be the channels of peace”. Mrs. Meenaz Bhanu ,member Jamaat e Islami Hind represented Islam.
The programme began with a Hymn and inaugural words by the organisers.
Moving on with short dialogues on the theme of the event by speakers of different faiths.
Mrs. Meenaz bhanu said that Islam is synonymous with peace, she highlighted some incidents from the life of Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) depicting him as a model of peace. She said that external peace cannot be achieved if we have an internal storm of hatred and revenge for others She mentioned the verse of the Quran that states, Allah will not change the condition of the people until they change what is in themselves. She concluded her talk by saying let’s be the channels of peace by studying each others religion to do away with bias and prejudice, by eradicating communal elements through unity and brotherhood, by serving the humanity regardless of the religion, caste and community and by developing a tolerance towards each others religion. Next speaker for the day was Br. Daniel fron pilar seminarians , representing Christian faith. He said that peace is when we are in the state of tranquility and fearlessness. It should not be passive. Its the responsibility of each individual to maintain harmony and it can be achieved only through love, he said. He quoted a verse from bible which says “love your God and love your neighbours”. A short mime act on “Universal Brotherhood”was put up by the students of Pilar theology college . The program concluded with a peace song.
