Philosophy

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) is a principled organization that draws its philosophy and ideology from Islam with its three fundamental concepts- Oneness and Sovereignty of God, Prophethood and Life After Death.

Belief in One God is the starting point of Islam. There is only one God who is the creator of the whole universe and the Creator and Sustainer of life in all its forms.

Islam proclaims that human beings are the vicegerents of God on earth, who are duty-bound to worship God and obey His rules and guidance in all walks of life.

God sent His messengers (Prophets) to convey the truth to humankind, who came to different lands in different periods to propagate and practice the message of Islam. Prophet Muhammad ( peace be upon him) is the last in a series of such prophets. He delivered the final message in the form of the Quran, the revealed Word of God. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) set a practical model of Islam through his life and tradition- Sunnah- which is considered the second authentic source of Islam, after the Holy Quran.

From the Oneness of God emanates the concept of the unity of humankind. In the Islamic worldview, all human beings are the descendants of Adam and Eve. None is superior to another by virtue of birth, caste, colour, nationality, community or language. Human dignity lies only in piety, good manners, and obedience to One God.

The message of Islam is universal. It belongs to the entire humanity, not to any particular community. Muslim is the word used to call anyone and everyone who submits himself/herself to the will of God and follows the divine path of Islam.

Islam is nothing but the path shown by Allah through his prophets. It presents a balanced and comprehensive view of life and encompasses all areas of life and combines the spiritual and the material. Human beings should follow this path in all areas of their individual and collective lives.

In the Islamic view, life does not end in this passing world. Human beings will see the ultimate results of their actions in the Hereafter. Men and women have the freedom to choose between good and evil. Those who believe in One God and order their lives in conformity with Divine Guidance will achieve real success in this world and the hereafter.

God has given free will to every human being and through this, He tests the human being. So there is no compulsion or coercion in the matter of faith and belief. Those who opt for evil and disbelief will face punishment by God.

Islam lays immense value on human life and existence. According to the Quran, killing a human being wrongly and intentionally is equal to killing all human beings.

Embodying the values of Islam, JIH strives to convey the message of Islam to the Indian community through peaceful means.

There is a wide gap between the teachings of Islam and the practices of the existing Muslim communities. JIH strives to build a Muslim society that is a living embodiment of the beliefs and values of Islam.

JIH believes in peace, tolerance, and communal amity and stands against violence, hatred, and communalism.

JIH works for social justice and stands with the oppressed and disadvantaged sections of Indian society.

The JIH firmly believes that the role of women is equally important in the making of an ideal society. Towards this belief, the JIH takes the initiative to involve common women in its programmes and works to restore their rights and status, which Islam advocates. Prophet Muḥammad (PBUH) has declared that seeking knowledge is a religious duty binding upon every Muslim man and woman.

JIH discourages gender injustice and anti-women practices prevailing in the present society like woman abuse, sexual crimes and harassment, dowry, domestic violence, depriving them of inheritance rights, et cetera.
