Mr. Asif Hussain Member Jamaat-e-Islami Hind was invited by Presentation Society’s Jeeven Jyothi Social Centre – Mangor Vasco to address the public meeting help Opp. MMC bulding Vasco on 7th May on the occasion of International Orphan’s Day. Chairperson MMC Mrs Fiola Rego, Sr, Deepti Kuruvilla- Director of Presentation Society, Sr. Leena Gracias, Mr. John Periera- Headmaster Municipal High School and Dr Jose Noronha were the other guests to address the gathering.
Mr. Asif Hussain laid emphasis on the special protection and consideration Islam accords to orphans and highlighted the practical measures adopted by Prophet Muhammad (saw) for the well- being and care of orphans. In his address he reminded the public that the increase in the number of orphanages in Goa were symptoms of various issues affecting the society ,especially family system in Goa. The neglect of orphans by immediate relatives due to materialistic outlook to life has lead to institutionalized care of orphans. Unjust wars across the world, crimes and lifestyle diseases has lead to increase in the number of widows and orphans and has created room for physical, sexual, economic and spiritual exploitation of children especially orphans. He stressed the responsibility of the immediate relations first, then the civil society and finally the government. He lamented at the fact that exorbitant and lavish expenditure by the resourceful members of the society and the government sadly testifies to the lack of sincerity and concern towards providing solutions to immediate needs of the society. He urged the thinking members of the public to come forward and lend a comforting hand for the orphans.
