GIO delegation present Memorandum to Governor of Goa

The Girls Islamic Organization of Goa, a wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind visited the Raj Bhavan to present a memorandum to the Governor of Goa Mrs Mridula Sinha.
Ms Saniya Malik, Gazal Aga and Ambrin Maig accompanied by Mrs Shahida Khan -member  Jamaa-te-Islami Hind met the Governor to impress upon her the problems  faced by girls and  women due to the increased consumption of alcohol and drugs and the image of Goa as a sex tourist destination.
The GIO girls briefed the 1st citizen about the activities  conducted by GIO  over the years such as a campaign against female feticide, awareness in schools against tobacco, environmental awareness campaign and respect and honoring elders and parents.
The memorandum addressed the current issue of girls being not allowed to wear the head scarf  and full clothing for the AIPMT examination. It stated that such conditions deprive the girls their freedom of choice of dress and moreover  hinders their progress in the field of education. It said that the beauty of India is in the diversity of cultures and different traditions of dress and food.
Mrs Sinha stated that the it was the right of every citizen to follow his or her religion without any restrictions. She appreciated the efforts of GIO and inspired them to work harder.
