The Dabolim circle of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Goa arranged an iftaar on 21st July for the residents of Vidyanagar colony. An annual feature since the formation of the circle it has helped build bridges of co-operation and has provided a platform for exchange of views on the principles of various faiths. The program began with the recitation of the Quran by Imran Makandar and was followed by a detailed introduction of the of concept of fasting by Mr. Shoaib Shaikh ,member of SIO.He explained how the fasting helps an individual to train himself to be obedient to the Creator. He said what is permitted otherwise becomes prohibited for the period of fasting from dawn to dusk, on each day of the month of Ramadhan this rigorous training of will power helps one to be obedient to the laws of the Creator and act with responsibility in his individual and social life. He said it is an opportunity for one to reform and purify himself. Br. Asif Hussain Member Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Goa introduced the Quran to the audience. In his presentation he said the Quran was an open invitation from the Creator to the whole mankind to use his intelligence and arrive at the conclusion that indeed He is their Creator. He said the Quran claims to be a book of Guidance revealed by Allah to Prophet Muhammad (saw). He detailed the unique features of the Quran and said it is unlike any other book. It lays down the principle foundations of life, he said and is a criteria to distinguish the truth from falsehood. He remarked that the quran comments on the previous communities and lists out their transgressions so that we could learn from their mistakes. He said the Quran endorses the earlier revealed scriptures such as the Injeel, Torah, Zaboor ( Bible, Torah and Psalms) in their original form and safeguards their original message. He concluded by saying that the Quran was the greatest gift from Allah (swt) and it is up to each one of us to gain from it. The presentations were followed by Q & A session and the breaking of the fast with dates.
